Home EV Charger Installation in Costa Mesa & Orange County

Charging your electric vehicle with a standard 120V outlet takes 20+ hours for a full charge. A NEMA 14-50 Receptacle or Level 2 home charger cuts that to 4–8 hours — overnight, while you sleep. Wilson Electric installs Level 2 EV charging stations for homeowners throughout Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, and Orange County.

We work with all major charger brands and vehicle types, including Tesla, Rivian, Ford, GM, BMW, and more. Every installation is permitted and inspected upon request, and performed by Wilson Electric, a licensed C10 electrical contractor

Level 1 vs Level 2: What's the Difference?

Level 1 (standard outlet, 120V):

Adds about 3–5 miles of range per hour. Fine for plug-in hybrids with small batteries, impractical for full EVs.

Level 2 (dedicated 240V circuit, 32–48A):

Adds 20–30 miles of range per hour. A full charge overnight, every night. This is what most EV owners want in their home.

Wilson Electric installs dedicated 240V circuits with the appropriate amperage for your vehicle and charger — typically a 50A circuit for maximum future flexibility.

What's Included in Our EV Charger Installation

Panel assessment. We evaluate your existing electrical panel to confirm it can support a new 240V circuit. If a panel upgrade is needed, we'll let you know upfront.

Dedicated circuit installation. We run a new 240V, 50A circuit from your panel to the garage or parking location of your choice.

Charger mounting and wiring. We mount and wire your charger (either yours or one we supply) to code.

Permit and inspection. All EV charger installations in California require a permit. We handle it.

Utility rebate documentation. Many Southern California utilities offer rebates for home EV charger installation. We can provide documentation to support your rebate application.

We install chargers for all major electric vehicles including Tesla (with J1772 adapter), Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevy Bolt, Rivian R1T/R1S, BMW i4, Hyundai IONIQ, and all other J1772-compatible EVs. We work with ChargePoint, Emporia, Enel X JuiceBox, Grizzl-E, and customer-supplied units.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does EV charger installation cost in Orange County?
Most home NEMA 14-50 or Level 2 EV charger installations run between $650 and $1,500 for labor and permit, not including the charger hardware. If your panel needs an upgrade first, that is priced separately. Contact us for a free quote.

Do I need a permit to install an EV charger at home in California?
Yes. A permit is required for any new 240V circuit installation in California, including EV chargers. Wilson Electric handles the permit and inspection as part of every install, upon customer request.

Can I install a Tesla Wall Connector myself?
California law requires a licensed C10 electrical contractor to install new circuits and hardwired chargers. Self-installation may void your warranty, fail inspection, and create a safety hazard. We install Tesla Wall Connectors and all other brands.

Where should I install my EV charger?
Most homeowners install their charger in the garage, near the panel side of the garage if possible to minimize wire run. We'll walk you through the best location options during the site visit.

How long does the installation take?
Most EV charger installations take 2–4 hours, assuming the panel has available capacity. A panel upgrade combined with charger installation can be completed in a single day.
